Simic (GU) Commander Combos

Simic combos are the most efficient infinite-mana engine in Commander, and the engine almost always runs through the same three moving parts: a mana-positive blink target, a blink spell, and Eternal Witness to loop it forever.

Peregrine Drake is the heart of the archetype. A single Ghostly Flicker targeting Peregrine Drake and any other permanent produces infinite mana in a single turn, and Eternal Witness turning Ghostly Flicker into a recursive loop converts that mana into infinite ETB triggers, infinite landfall, and effectively any win condition that responds to either. Displace runs the same line with a redundant blink spell, and Illusionist's Stratagem adds infinite card draw on top. Palinchron fills the same role as Peregrine Drake for decks that can produce seven mana naturally.

The second major axis is tap-creature loops through Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy. Kinnan doubles non-land mana sources, which means a single Birds of Paradise enchanted with Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura produces infinite colored mana on its own — no graveyard recursion required. These lines are faster and harder to disrupt than the blink loops, and they collapse entirely into two cards, making them easy to tutor consistently.

Doppelgang with Eternal Witness represents a newer branch: copy Doppelgang targeting Eternal Witness for X equals two or more, get back Doppelgang, cast again with X one higher, and the loop produces infinite permanent copies with no additional engine pieces. It is slower than the Kinnan lines but requires almost no setup beyond having both cards in hand.

Displacer Kitten extends the archetype into artifact and spell-based loops. With Lotus Petal and Snap, Displacer Kitten generates infinite ETB triggers and near-infinite mana off noncreature spells, which enables storm-style finishes that pure creature loops cannot easily reach.

What ties all of these together is Green's ramp density and Blue's blink and draw payoffs. Simic does not need to fight through combat; it assembles two or three pieces, generates infinite resources, and converts them immediately. The real question in building Simic combo is not whether the loop works — it does — but which redundant pieces best fit the commander's native tutor and draw lines.
