Imperious Perfect + Faces of the Past + Ashnod's Altar + Llanowar Elves

4-card combo · GU

Verdict

Yes — this 4-card loop generates infinite mana and infinite death triggers inside a Simic Elf shell that already wants every piece on the table.

Imperious Perfect taps for one mana from Llanowar Elves to mint an Elf Warrior token, Ashnod's Altar sacrifices it for two colorless, and Faces of the Past untaps every Elf and Warrior when the token dies — netting one colorless per loop with Llanowar Elves refreshing the green for the next activation. The loop is native to any Elf tribal commander in green-blue, where Imperious Perfect and Llanowar Elves are already core pieces and Ashnod's Altar is a standard sacrifice outlet. Faces of the Past is the narrow dependency here — it lives only in blue, pulls no synergy weight outside this line, and dies to enchantment removal before the loop even assembles.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Imperious Perfect and Llanowar Elves do not have summoning sickness.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Llanowar Elves by tapping it, adding {G}.
  2. Activate Imperious Perfect by paying {G} and tapping it, creating a 1/1 Elf Warrior creature token.
  3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Elf Warrior, adding {C}{C}.
  4. The Elf Warrior dies, triggering Faces of the Past, untapping all Elves and Warriors.
  5. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite colored mana; Infinite colorless mana; Infinite death triggers; Infinite ETB; Infinite LTB; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite untap of all Elves and Warriors

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Slate of Ancestry or Ezuri, Renegade Leader can convert the infinite mana into a table kill once the loop runs. Parallel Lives or Doubling Season on the battlefield doubles the token output and accelerates the mana accumulation, though neither replaces a piece. Any sac outlet that triggers on creature type — Goblin Bombardment excluded by color identity — can substitute for Ashnod's Altar if colorless mana isn't the priority.
