Kormus Bell + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + The Flesh Is Weak

3-card combo · WUB

Verdict

Yes — this 3-card lock destroys every nonartifact land that enters the battlefield, stranding opponents on zero mana for the rest of the game.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes all lands Swamps, Kormus Bell turns all Swamps into 1/1 creatures, and The Flesh Is Weak drops their toughness by 1 — so any land entering the battlefield immediately becomes a 0/0 and dies to state-based actions before its controller can tap it. The lock hits all lands that were already in play at the moment the third piece lands as well, wiping the board clean. Esper control commanders — Zur the Enchanter, Sen Triplets, or any Oloro, Ageless Ascetic shell — can tutor all three pieces efficiently.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

02

Steps

  1. When a land enters the battlefield, it becomes a Swamp due to Kormus Bell. This then causes it to become a 0/0 creature due to Urborg and The Flesh Is Weak, and die as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.

03

Result

Destroy all nonartifact lands; Destroy all nonartifact lands that enter the battlefield; Lock; Mass Land Denial

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The lock demands all three pieces simultaneously; losing Urborg means Kormus Bell only hits actual Swamps and the combo collapses entirely, so redundant tutors like Vampiric Tutor and Enlightened Tutor are mandatory, not optional. Stax shells that already run Winter Orb or Static Orb get the most mileage here, since the land denial alone doesn't win — pair it with an alt-win condition like Thassa's Oracle or Aetherflux Reservoir to close before opponents find artifact-based mana to claw back in.
