Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes every land a Swamp; Kormus Bell turns every Swamp into a 1/1 creature. Make Obsolete then hits all opponent-controlled creatures with -1/-1 until end of turn, which kills every 1/1 land-creature they control and strips their entire mana base in one shot. Black land denial decks running Sheoldred, the Apocalypse or K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth run this as a one-sided Armageddon that leaves the pilot's own lands intact because Make Obsolete only targets opponents.
Recipe
How it works
01
Prerequisites
to cast it.
02
Steps
- With Urborg on the battlefield, all lands are swamps.
- With Kormus Bell on the battlefield, all Swamps are 1/1 creatures.
- Cast Make Obsolete, giving all creatures your opponent control -1/-1 until end of turn, destroying all their lands.
03
Result
Destroy all lands opponents control; Destroy all x/1 creatures your opponents control; Mass Land Denial
Variations
Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines
Massacre Girl, Known Killer replaces Make Obsolete as a reusable body that triggers the same -1/-1 wipe on entry, though it hits your own 1/1s too if Urborg and Kormus Bell are in play — sequence carefully or sacrifice the Bell first. Mutilate is the broader sweeper backup in mono-black, but it doesn't single out the 1/1 lands the same way and needs heavy Swamp density to matter.
