Kormus Bell turns all Swamps into 1/1 creatures; Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes every land a Swamp; Kaervek, the Spiteful reduces all creatures' toughness by 1, dragging every land-creature to 0/0 and straight into the graveyard as a state-based action. Any land that enters after the lock is assembled hits the same wall — it becomes a Swamp, becomes a 0/0 creature, and dies before its controller untaps. Black stax and land destruction shells running a commander like Sheoldred, Whispering One or K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth can assemble this and effectively end the game for anyone relying on lands.
Recipe
How it works
01
Prerequisites
—
02
Steps
- When a land enters the battlefield, it becomes a Swamp due to Kormus Bell. This then causes it to become a 0/0 creature due to Urborg and Kaervek, and die as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.
03
Result
Destroy all lands; Destroy all lands that enter the battlefield; Lock; Mass Land Denial
Variations
Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines
Massacre Girl or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite can substitute for Kaervek if the toughness reduction piece needs to be swapped, though Elesh Norn requires white. The lock does not kill creatures already on the board that aren't lands, so pair it with a fast win condition — a pre-existing threat or a tutor chain into Torment of Hailfire — before opponents stabilize on artifacts or mana rocks.
