Vraska's Fall card art
Vraska's Fall destroys a creature or planeswalker and puts a poison counter on its controller — two lines of text that justify the slot on their own. The cost is real: three mana at sorcery speed means you're not stopping anything at instant speed, but Storm King's Thunder and Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa both lean on the poison rider hard enough that the tempo hit is almost always worth it.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

84.7% of decks · synergy 0.81

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa runs on incremental poison accumulation, and Vraska's Fall does double duty — it removes a blocker while ticking opponents closer to the ten-counter threshold Ixhel needs to close games.

02
Vishgraz, the Doomhive

Vishgraz, the Doomhive

73.0% of decks · synergy 0.69

Vishgraz, the Doomhive cares about opponents having poison counters to fuel its token-generating trigger, so Vraska's Fall earns its slot as removal that also feeds the engine.

05
Agent Frank Horrigan

Agent Frank Horrigan

39.7% of decks · synergy 0.38

Agent Frank Horrigan rewards stacking poison onto opponents, and Vraska's Fall fits cleanly as interaction that pulls double duty — removal plus a free counter toward the poison win condition.

Commander is where Vraska's Fall lives — the poison rider is largely irrelevant in non-poison decks, but in dedicated infect or proliferate shells it turns a stock removal spell into a free engine trigger. In Pauper it's legal but competes with unconditional removal at the same cost, and the poison text goes completely to waste outside of niche builds. Modern and Pioneer have access to far more efficient interaction, so Vraska's Fall doesn't see play there. Legacy and Vintage don't want three-mana sorcery removal under any circumstances.
