Toph, the First Metalbender + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Staff of Domination + Caged Sun

4-card combo · RGW

Verdict

Yes — this 4-card loop generates infinite black mana and, if the mandatory loop cannot be broken, forces a draw.

Toph, the First Metalbender turns all permanents into lands, which means Staff of Domination becomes a Swamp under Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth — tapping it triggers Caged Sun's mana-doubling ability and pays back the 1 needed to untap it each cycle. The same Toph-plus-Urborg interaction makes every land tap for double through Caged Sun, which is what pushes the engine past the threshold needed to go infinite. The result is a mandatory infinite loop that wins or draws depending on whether the pilot has a mana sink to interrupt it.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You control a mana-producing land who can produce mana of the color named by Caged Sun.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Staff of Domination by tapping it, adding {B} as it's a Swamp land due to Toph and Urborg
  2. Caged Sun triggers, adding {B}.
  3. Activate Staff of Domination's first ability by paying {1}, untapping it.
  4. Repeat.
  5. Activate a land by tapping it, adding at least one mana of the color named by Caged Sun.
  6. Caged Sun triggers, adding one mana of that color.
  7. Caged Sun triggers again, as it is a land due to Toph, adding one mana of that color.
  8. Step 3 repeats in a mandatory infinite loop, causing the game to end in a draw.

03

Result

Infinite lifegain triggers; Infinite lifegain; Draw the game; Infinite card draw; Infinite untap of creatures you control; Infinite draw triggers; Infinite mana creatures you control can produce; Infinite black mana

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Walking Ballista or Heliod, Sun-Crowned converts the infinite black mana into a clean kill before the draw trigger resolves — include at least one sink or the loop ends the game in a draw rather than a win. Caged Sun can name any color Toph's controller has a land producing, so the combo isn't locked to black; naming white or green widens the eligible land count in the 99.
