Bloodstained Mire's fetch triggers both Kodama of the East Tree and Scute Swarm; Kodama puts Ghost Town onto the battlefield for free, which retriggers the chain, and Ghost Town bounces itself back to hand before the loop restarts. The whole engine runs off an opponent's turn because Ghost Town's return-to-hand ability only functions during non-active-player upkeeps — that restriction is the ceiling, not just a footnote. Scute Swarm doubling on six or more lands means the token count grows exponentially rather than linearly once the board is established.

Prerequisites

It is not your turn. There is a land card in your library that can be fetched using Bloodstained Mire. Your life total is at least 2.

Steps

  1. Fetch a land using Bloodstained Mire.
  2. When the fetched land enters, Scute Swarm and Kodama trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting Ghost Town from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. When Ghost Town enters, Kodama and Scute Swarm trigger.
  5. Holding priority, activate Ghost Town's first abiltiy by tapping it, adding {C}.
  6. Activate Ghost Town's second ability by paying {0}, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  7. Resolve the Scute Swarm from step 4, creating a token.
  8. When the token enters, Kodama triggers, putting Ghost Town from your hand onto the battlefield.
  9. When Ghost Town enters, Scute Swarm triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 5.

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Retreat to Coralhelm is the more common Ghost Town enabler in landfall loops but requires blue, which this green-only identity avoids entirely. Any fetch land works in place of Bloodstained Mire as the trigger — the specific fetch is interchangeable. Finale of Devastation or Craterhoof Behemoth closes the game after the token flood; the loop generates the army, it doesn't deal the damage itself.
