Stunning Reversal is a one-mana insurance policy that replaces itself and prevents your next lethal damage — the catch is you end the turn at one life with no hand, which is either a speed bump or a death sentence depending on the board. In specific combo shells like Magar of the Magic Strings or Phage the Untouchable, that downside is irrelevant because you're winning on the spot anyway.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Phage the Untouchable
Phage the Untouchable wins on contact but loses on contact too — Stunning Reversal is the most popular safety net in Phage the Untouchable decks because it lets you survive the Phage trigger if she hits you through a clone or flicker gone wrong, buying exactly one more turn to close the game.

Mister Negative
Mister Negative runs Stunning Reversal as a recursive threat: the card draws a replacement when it fires, and Mister Negative can exile and replay it from the graveyard to generate infinite death-prevention loops in the right setup.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Stunning Reversal is a Commander card first and foremost — the multiplayer table gives you enough opponents that surviving at one life with a fresh card in hand is actually actionable, and combo decks exploit it as a combo piece rather than just a panic button. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but almost never played; one mana for a conditional life-save doesn't compete with the raw disruption those formats demand, and resolving it in a meaningful spot is harder when the game ends on turn two. Oathbreaker is the other format worth noting: the same combo synergies that make it popular in Commander apply, and the smaller game size means surviving to untap at one life is genuinely dangerous for your opponents.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Stunning Reversal is hard to replace cleanly because the draw-a-card rider is most of its value in combo contexts — Angel's Grace stops the damage without the card draw, and Teferi's Protection protects you more broadly but costs three mana and considerably more money. If the goal is simply surviving a lethal hit in a non-combo shell, Worship or Platinum Angel does the job more durably, though neither replaces the spell-slot efficiency Stunning Reversal provides at one mana.
Price Context
Current price
$6.14 mid tier
At $6.14, Stunning Reversal sits in the mid tier — not a budget inclusion, but cheap enough that dedicated Phage the Untouchable or combo decks should run it without hesitation. Demand is narrow but real, so the price is unlikely to move dramatically in either direction.
