Ordeal of Nylea card art
Ordeal of Nylea gives you two +1/+1 counters and a free Explosive Vegetation the turn it pops — substantial mana acceleration stapled to an Aura that costs two mana. The cost is that it needs three attack triggers to sacrifice itself, which means it's dead weight against stax, fast combo, or anything that keeps your creature off the battlefield; Yenna, Redtooth Regent and Baba Lysaga, Night Witch both justify running it because they either copy or sacrifice it before the waiting period becomes a liability.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Baba Lysaga, Night Witch

Baba Lysaga, Night Witch

64.2% of decks · synergy 0.62

Baba Lysaga, Night Witch sacrifices permanents for value, so Ordeal of Nylea can be cashed in on demand rather than sitting through three combat steps — you get the counters and trigger the search whenever Lysaga needs fuel.

02
Kosei, Penitent Warlord

Kosei, Penitent Warlord

64.9% of decks · synergy 0.62

Kosei, Penitent Warlord needs multiple auras and equipment to unlock its combat damage triggers, and Ordeal of Nylea contributes two counters plus the land fetch while checking an aura off Kosei's requirement list.

03
Stangg, Echo Warrior

Stangg, Echo Warrior

53.9% of decks · synergy 0.52

Stangg, Echo Warrior copies Auras onto his token, so Ordeal of Nylea effectively puts counters on two creatures simultaneously, accelerating the sacrifice trigger while doubling the +1/+1 counter payoff.

04
Chishiro, the Shattered Blade

Chishiro, the Shattered Blade

44.0% of decks · synergy 0.42

Chishiro, the Shattered Blade generates Spirit tokens whenever a +1/+1 counter is placed on a permanent, so the two counters from Ordeal of Nylea's attack triggers translate directly into two free bodies before the land fetch even resolves.

In Commander, Ordeal of Nylea is a niche role-player rather than a staple — the three-attack requirement is slow by multiplayer standards, but commanders that copy Auras, sacrifice permanents for value, or need counters on-curve make it worthwhile. In Pioneer and Modern, it's too slow for most competitive shells; aggressive green creature decks want their two-mana slot doing something immediately, and the delayed land search doesn't compensate. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient acceleration and Aura payoffs, so Ordeal of Nylea doesn't register there. It's legal in Standard at time of writing, where the lower power ceiling makes the ramp relevant, but it still demands an aggressive creature strategy to trigger it before the game ends.

Price Context

Current price

$0.25 bulk tier

At $0.25, Ordeal of Nylea is firmly bulk — you're acquiring it out of a commons box, not tracking it on the secondary market. Bulk enchantments with narrow synergy requirements don't appreciate unless a new commander dramatically spikes their inclusion rate, so treat this as a $.25 pickup and nothing more.
