Chishiro, the Shattered Blade
Legendary Creature — Snake Samurai

Chishiro, the Shattered Blade turns every aura and equipment you cast into a free 2/2 with menace, and that token generation compounds fast enough to end games on its own. The cost is running a Gruul commander in a space where blue and black do this more efficiently — Dan Lewis and similar aura-slinging designers push it hard in Stangg, Echo Warrior shells where the token doubling gets out of hand.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Stangg, Echo Warrior
Stangg, Echo Warrior copies auras onto a token each combat, which means every aura you attach fires Chishiro, the Shattered Blade's trigger twice — the rate of 2/2 menace tokens becomes absurd within a few turns.

Mazzy, Truesword Paladin
Mazzy, Truesword Paladin returns auras from the graveyard to hand, so every removal spell on your creature reloads ammunition for Chishiro, the Shattered Blade to trigger again on the next cast.

Preston Garvey, Minuteman
Preston Garvey, Minuteman creates token copies of creatures whenever you make a token, turning each Chishiro, the Shattered Blade 2/2 into a cascade of additional bodies that can then wear equipment themselves.

Dogmeat, Ever Loyal
Dogmeat, Ever Loyal mills equipment and auras into the graveyard and then returns them to play, generating a stream of cast-and-attach events that feed Chishiro, the Shattered Blade's trigger at scale.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Chishiro, the Shattered Blade does real work — the card is built around the long game of accumulating an enchantment or equipment package, and a 99-card singleton environment gives it the density of targets it needs. In Legacy and Vintage, where it's technically legal, a four-mana do-nothing-until-next-spell creature doesn't compete with the threats and interaction those formats demand. Oathbreaker offers a faster clock and a smaller deck, which could make the token engine relevant, but the format's low adoption ceiling limits the card's ceiling there too.

Current price
$1.06 cheap tier
At $1.06, Chishiro, the Shattered Blade sits in the cheap tier — fully accessible for any budget and priced well below its gameplay impact in the right shell. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to spike, but it's also unlikely to fall further, so there's no reason to wait.
