Auratog is a niche threat in dedicated Aura strategies — sacrifice your enchantments to spike its power, then return them with Mazzy, Truesword Paladin or copy them with Yenna, Redtooth Regent to keep the engine alive. The ceiling is real in the right shell, but outside those specific commanders it's a vanilla 1/2 that does nothing until you feed it.

Mazzy, Truesword Paladin turns the sacrifice into a loop: Auratog eats an Aura for a power spike, Mazzy's triggered ability puts it straight back from the graveyard onto a creature, so you're not actually down a card — you're generating repeated triggers at instant speed.

Auratog is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive play in Legacy, Modern, and Vintage has never had a reason to run it — Aura-based synergies in those formats don't need a 1/2 that temporarily gets big. Commander is where it actually lives, specifically in Aura-heavy decks that have a recursion engine to prevent the sacrifice from being a pure loss. Outside of dedicated Aura commanders, the card is too conditional and too fragile to earn a slot.
