Floating Shield card art
Floating Shield protects a creature from a chosen color and, crucially, lets you move that protection to another creature whenever it enters or leaves the battlefield — that mobility is what separates it from a static aura. The combo ceiling with Last Laugh turns that constant movement into a repeatable damage engine, which is the only reason Floating Shield earns a slot in competitive lists.

Commander is where Floating Shield finds its real home, specifically in aristocrats and damage-ping strategies that exploit the shield's movement triggers. Outside Commander, it's legal in Legacy, Vintage, and Pauper, but those formats move too fast for a three-mana aura with no immediate board impact to matter. Pauper is the one fringe exception — if a combo line using Floating Shield ever crystallizes at common rarity, the price and legality are both right. Everywhere else, it stays in the bulk box.

Price Context

Current price

$0.14 bulk tier

At $0.14, Floating Shield is deep bulk — pick it up without hesitation if a build calls for it. Combo-specific bulk rarely spikes unless the engine breaks into a mainstream format, so don't expect movement here.
