Bishop of Wings card art
Bishop of Wings pays you 4 life and a 1/1 Spirit token every time an Angel enters or dies under your control — on a two-mana body that itself has lifelink and flying. The catch is narrow: outside Angel tribal, it does nothing, but inside it, the card generates more resources than most two-drops at any price point, especially alongside Divine Visitation converting those Spirits into Angels and snowballing the loop. Giada, Font of Hope decks run it at over 60% inclusion for good reason.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Giada, Font of Hope

Giada, Font of Hope

60.8% of decks · synergy 0.51

Giada, Font of Hope is the premier Angel tribal commander, and Bishop of Wings slots into that engine as a recursive life-gain and token engine that rewards every Angel you play or lose. The combination of Giada accelerating Angels onto the board and Bishop triggering on each of them means your life total climbs fast while your board refills after sweepers.

02
Shilgengar, Sire of Famine

Shilgengar, Sire of Famine

50.0% of decks · synergy 0.48

Shilgengar, Sire of Famine wants to sacrifice Angels repeatedly for power, and Bishop of Wings turns each sacrifice into a 4-life buffer and a fresh token — softening the cost of feeding Shilgengar's ability. That loop keeps your life total viable and your board non-empty even as you're burning through creatures.

03
Sigarda, Font of Blessings

Sigarda, Font of Blessings

43.8% of decks · synergy 0.42

Sigarda, Font of Blessings builds around Angel and Human synergy, and Bishop of Wings adds a resilient value layer that the deck otherwise lacks — life gain as a resource and token generation as a cushion against removal. The two-mana slot is exactly where Sigarda decks want efficient contributors.

04
Avacyn, Angel of Hope

Avacyn, Angel of Hope

22.6% of decks · synergy 0.13

Avacyn, Angel of Hope decks are all-in on expensive Angels, and Bishop of Wings provides a meaningful payoff even in the early turns when Avacyn herself is still out of reach. The steady life gain from landing large Angels keeps you in the game long enough to resolve your top end.

05
Liesa, Forgotten Archangel

Liesa, Forgotten Archangel

15.1% of decks · synergy 0.13

Liesa, Forgotten Archangel already punishes opponents on life totals, and Bishop of Wings amplifies that pressure by padding your own life total on every Angel trigger. The token generation also gives Liesa something to recur, since nontoken creatures that die return to hand under her ability.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander

modern
pioneer

vintage

oathbreaker

Commander is where Bishop of Wings actually lives — Angel tribal is a deep and popular archetype in the format, and the card's triggered abilities scale with the density of Angels your deck runs. In Modern and Pioneer, it's legal but sees essentially no play; two-mana creatures in those formats need to affect the board immediately or slot into an established engine, and Angel tribal isn't a competitive archetype in either. Legacy and Vintage are similarly barren ground for it — those formats have no interest in a 1/1 that requires a tribal shell to function. Bishop of Wings is a Commander card through and through, and evaluating it anywhere else is mostly an academic exercise.

Price Context

Current price

$3.17 cheap tier

At $3.17, Bishop of Wings sits in the sweet spot where it costs real money to omit from a deck that wants it but never becomes a budget obstacle. The price is stable given its consistent demand in Angel tribal builds — it's not going anywhere as long as Giada, Font of Hope and Shilgengar, Sire of Famine remain popular commanders.
