Fertile Ground turns any land into a two-mana rock the turn it enters, and at two mana the math is already positive by the next untap. The ceiling jumps hard with Arbor Elf — tap the enchanted land, untap it with the Elf, tap it again — and Estrid, the Masked can replay Fertile Ground from the graveyard every turn cycle, making the engine borderline unfair.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Estrid, the Masked
Estrid, the Masked is the natural home: her +2 untaps every enchanted permanent, so a land wearing Fertile Ground taps for three mana before the turn even develops, and her ultimate generates enough enchantment recursion to keep Fertile Ground online through interaction.

Preston Garvey, Minuteman
Preston Garvey, Minuteman creates token copies of Auras when Settlers enter the battlefield, so Fertile Ground can multiply across several lands at once, turning a single enchantment into a sudden mana surplus that funds Preston's next wave of Settlers.

Tatsunari, Toad Rider
Tatsunari, Toad Rider cares about casting enchantments — Fertile Ground is a cheap trigger that advances the board and fuels the Frog token's attack plan without spending a real card slot on pure ramp.

Wildsear, Scouring Maw
Wildsear, Scouring Maw rewards enchantment density, and Fertile Ground slots in as one of the lowest-friction ways to hit an enchantment count threshold while also accelerating the mana needed to cast Wildsear ahead of curve.

Yenna, Redtooth Regent
Yenna, Redtooth Regent copies Auras during combat, so Fertile Ground becomes a free mana doubler across multiple lands mid-combat — the kind of explosive acceleration that lets Yenna snowball a board state in a single turn.

Commander is where Fertile Ground earns its keep: 100-card decks reward redundant, cheap ramp that doesn't eat a card slot the way a tap land does, and enchantment synergy commanders turn it into a genuine engine piece rather than a plain accelerant. In Pauper it's a legitimate consideration in Aura-based or landfall-adjacent shells where two-mana enchantments that replace themselves are at a premium. Legacy and Vintage have access to strictly faster mana, so Fertile Ground never makes the cut competitively in those formats. Modern has enough two-mana ramp options that also replace themselves to push it out entirely.

Fertile Ground has been printed enough times that copies are typically available for well under a dollar — it's the kind of card you find in bulk bins or pick up as a throw-in. At that price point there's no reason to hesitate; just grab a copy and sleeve it.
