Felidar Retreat turns every land drop into a free body or a free pump, and at four mana it asks almost nothing in return. In landfall-heavy shells — especially anything running Kodama of the East Tree to chain land plays — it snowballs faster than opponents can answer it, and Ajani, Nacatl Pariah decks run it at over 70% inclusion for exactly that reason.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy
Ajani, Nacatl Pariah
Ajani, Nacatl Pariah generates cat tokens and wants bodies in play to pressure life totals, and Felidar Retreat feeds both halves — each land drop is either a free cat or a free buff to the board Ajani is already building.

Arahbo, the First Fang
Arahbo, the First Fang is a cat tribal engine, and Felidar Retreat is one of the most consistent token generators in that archetype — every land drop during a normal game produces another cat to feed Arahbo's combat payoffs.

Neyali, Suns' Vanguard
Neyali, Suns' Vanguard cares about token creatures attacking, and Felidar Retreat is a four-mana enchantment that produces a new attacker every time you play a land — the two pieces build momentum together without requiring any additional setup.

Rin and Seri, Inseparable
Rin and Seri, Inseparable triggers off cats and dogs entering the battlefield, so Felidar Retreat's steady stream of cat tokens translates directly into life gain and damage output across the game.

Arahbo, Roar of the World
Arahbo, Roar of the World buffs cats in combat, and Felidar Retreat gives the deck a reliable way to maintain board presence through removal — even after a wipe, the next few land drops rebuild the cat count fast.

Commander is where Felidar Retreat does its best work — the longer game means more land drops, more triggers, and more time to leverage a growing board of tokens or counters. In Pioneer and Modern it has seen fringe play in landfall aggro shells, but four mana is a steep ask in those formats and the payoff is too slow to compete with linear threats. Standard legality makes it a reasonable build-around in draft and constructed, though again it needs a critical mass of fetch effects or land-play enablers to pull real weight. Legacy and Vintage have the tools to abuse it but far more broken four-drops, so Felidar Retreat rarely shows up there outside of casual builds.

$2.60 cheap tier
At $2.60, Felidar Retreat sits in the cheap tier — a low barrier for a card that shows up across multiple archetypes at inclusion rates above 70% in its best commanders. It's a stable pickup rather than a speculative one; wide demand across cat tribal and landfall keeps the floor from dropping.
