Arid Mesa's fetch triggers both Retreat to Emeria and Kodama of the East Tree; Kodama's trigger puts Ghost Town onto the battlefield for free, which chains directly into another Retreat to Emeria trigger. Ghost Town's zero-cost return ability bounces itself back to hand before the loop closes, meaning the engine runs entirely off the fetch's initial landfall — the table sees it assemble at instant speed during someone else's turn.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

It is not your turn. There is a land card in your library that can be fetched using Arid Mesa. Your life total is at least 2.

02

Steps

  1. Fetch a land using Arid Mesa.
  2. When the fetched land enters, Retreat to Emeria and Kodama trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting Ghost Town from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. When Ghost Town enters, Kodama and Retreat to Emeria trigger.
  5. Holding priority, activate Ghost Town's first abiltiy by tapping it, adding {C}.
  6. Activate Ghost Town's second ability by paying {0}, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  7. Resolve the Retreat to Emeria from step 4, creating a token.
  8. When the token enters, Kodama triggers, putting Ghost Town from your hand onto the battlefield.
  9. When Ghost Town enters, Retreat to Emeria triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 5.

03

Result

Infinite ETB; Infinite colorless mana; Infinite creature tokens; Infinite landfall triggers

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Any fetchland that puts a Plains or Forest onto the battlefield can replace Arid Mesa — Windswept Heath, Flooded Strand, or Marsh Flats all work. Retreat to Coralhelm is the blue analogue if the enchantment slot is answered, though it requires a different trigger payoff. The infinite tokens are the kill, but without a haste enabler or sacrifice outlet already on board, the win waits until the next combat step — pair with Goblin Bombardment or Altar of Dementia to convert immediately.
