True Polymorph card art
True Polymorph turns any permanent into a copy of any other permanent on the board — a six-mana instant that rewrites the board state mid-combat or steals the most dangerous thing in play by becoming it. The cost is real, but the upside of copying something like Eternity Vessel or any other high-value permanent on demand makes it one of the more explosive single-card swings available in blue.

True Polymorph is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card in practice. Six mana at instant speed is simply too slow for competitive Legacy, Modern, or Vintage, where the game is typically decided before you untap with that much mana open. In Commander, the calculus flips: games run long, targets are plentiful, and the political and combo applications of swapping permanents mid-table are uniquely powerful. Oathbreaker is the one 1v1-adjacent format where True Polymorph could see fringe play, but the lower starting life total and faster pace still work against it.

Pricing data isn't available at the moment, so check Scryfall or your preferred vendor for the current market rate. True Polymorph is a niche combo and toolbox piece rather than a format staple, which historically keeps its price accessible — worth picking up if you have a shell for it rather than speculating.
