Commander is where Toralf, God of Fury // Toralf's Hammer lives — 40-life totals and crowded boards mean excess damage is always available, and the four-player table gives the redirect chains multiple valid targets. In Modern and Pioneer, the five-mana front face is simply too slow for a format where games end on turn four, and Toralf's Hammer as an equipment adds nothing efficient enough to compensate. Legacy and Vintage have the raw power but lack any structural reason to run a five-mana creature that does nothing the turn it enters; burn and combo decks there close faster without it. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where Toralf, God of Fury // Toralf's Hammer could see real play, since the 20-life totals and planeswalker-plus-signature-spell structure rewards the same sweeper-redirect synergies that make it strong in Commander.
