Thunder of Unity card art
Thunder of Unity hits the battlefield as a 6/6 with flying and trample for five mana — that's a closing threat on its own, and Zurgo, Thunder's Decree makes it free when you've cast another spell with five or more mana value this turn. The catch is Warren Soultrader-style sacrificial setups can exploit the recurrence, but in a vacuum Thunder of Unity is a legitimate finisher that earns its slot without needing a combo to justify it.

Zurgo, Thunder's Decree

Zurgo, Thunder's Decree

34.2% of decks · synergy 0.31

Zurgo, Thunder's Decree is the obvious home — Thunder of Unity is literally named for this partnership, and Zurgo's ability to cast it for free off a qualifying spell means you're dropping a 6/6 flier with no additional mana investment, turning every big spell into a two-for-one threat.

02
Neriv, Heart of the Storm

Neriv, Heart of the Storm

14.1% of decks · synergy 0.10

Neriv, Heart of the Storm cares about large creatures and storm-style spell chaining, and Thunder of Unity's five-mana value threshold fits cleanly into the high-CMC payoffs Neriv wants to be casting and recurring — 14% inclusion across Neriv decks reflects that the card pulls real weight in that shell.

Commander is where Thunder of Unity actually lives — the Zurgo, Thunder's Decree synergy is the reason the card exists, and the 100-card singleton format gives it the tribal and spell-chaining infrastructure to fire consistently. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and too narrow, a five-mana vanilla threat by any other name without a dedicated free-cast engine. Legacy and Vintage have access to faster, more broken things and won't touch it. Standard is theoretically viable but Thunder of Unity will only see play there if aggressive Zurgo-adjacent strategies gain enough support to be tier-relevant.

Price Context

Current price

$0.36 bulk tier

At $0.36, Thunder of Unity is bulk — you're not paying a premium for anything here. It's a new-set mythic that hasn't proven itself outside its intended commander shell, so the price is likely to stay flat or drift lower unless Zurgo strategies surge in paper play.
