Tectonic Split card art
Tectonic Split hits the board as a land destruction spell that also produces mana — exile a land to add two mana of any color, which means it replaces itself in tempo while dismantling a problem land. The cost is real: exiling your own land is sometimes the only option, and at three mana it's not cheap. Kiora's Follower and Toph, Hardheaded Teacher both abuse the mana generation side, making this a combo piece first and removal second.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Toph, Hardheaded Teacher

Toph, Hardheaded Teacher

17.9% of decks · synergy 0.17

Toph, Hardheaded Teacher's ability rewards exiling cards from hand and generating mana through unconventional means, and Tectonic Split feeds directly into that engine — crack a land, add two mana, and watch Toph convert the tempo swing into pressure.

02
Toph, Earthbending Master

Toph, Earthbending Master

17.7% of decks · synergy 0.16

Toph, Earthbending Master cares specifically about land interaction and landfall-adjacent effects, and Tectonic Split gives that deck a removal spell that doubles as a mana burst rather than a tempo loss.

03
Sin, Spira's Punishment

Sin, Spira's Punishment

9.4% of decks · synergy 0.09

Sin, Spira's Punishment runs big, splashy spells and values mana acceleration to hit its top end faster — Tectonic Split's two-mana bonus can front-load the acceleration needed to resolve a game-ending threat a turn early.

oathbreaker

Tectonic Split is a Commander card — the singleton format's appetite for flexible utility and combo-enabling pieces is exactly where it earns a slot. The Kiora's Follower loop and similar untap interactions give it a real combo ceiling in that context, and land destruction is more tolerated when it comes attached to mana production. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; faster formats have zero interest in a three-mana sorcery that exiles one land. Oathbreaker could find niche use in the same earthbending-style builds, but Commander is where Tectonic Split actually does something.

Price Context

Current price

$2.30 cheap tier

At $2.30, Tectonic Split sits in the cheap tier — affordable enough to slot into any brew without deliberation. It's a narrow card with a specific audience, so the price is unlikely to move unless a breakout combo deck pushes demand, but you're not overpaying for what it does.
