Kiora's Follower is a two-mana 2/2 that untaps any permanent — land, creature, artifact — and that flexibility is the whole reason it shows up across Simic combo and value decks. Alaundo the Seer and Ioreth of the Healing House share the same untap-to-activate logic, and Kiora's Follower serves both without asking anything extra.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Alaundo the Seer
Alaundo the Seer's engine runs on untap triggers, and Kiora's Follower is one of the cleanest ways to fire it again — tap Alaundo, untap with the Follower, move another counter, cast another spell for free.

Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca
Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca asks you to tap multiple Merfolk for each of his activated abilities, and Kiora's Follower pulls double duty as both a tap outlet target and a reset button to get those Merfolk ready to tap again.

Hakbal of the Surging Soul
In a Hakbal of the Surging Soul Merfolk build, the tribal body matters as much as the untap — Kiora's Follower contributes to Hakbal's attack-trigger count while also freeing up a tapped land or utility creature mid-combat.

Xavier Sal, Infested Captain
Xavier Sal, Infested Captain rewards tapping creatures for Incubate triggers, and Kiora's Follower can untap those same creatures to tap them again, stretching each activation further than the deck would otherwise reach.

Ellie and Alan, Paleontologists
Ellie and Alan, Paleontologists lean on tapping Dinosaurs to excavate, and Kiora's Follower gives that tap-heavy gameplan a cheap reset so the best creatures contribute on offense and to the ability in the same turn.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Kiora's Follower does its best work — the format's reliance on tap-activated commanders and mana-producing permanents makes a repeatable untap effect on a creature body genuinely powerful rather than a curiosity. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; the bar for a two-mana do-nothing-on-entry creature is simply too high when the formats run on one-mana interaction. Modern and Pioneer are the same story — Kiora's Follower lacks the velocity or impact those formats demand. Oathbreaker is the one other format where it can matter, for the same reason Commander does: planeswalker-centric value loops occasionally want exactly this kind of cheap, flexible untap.

$0.33 bulk tier
At $0.33, Kiora's Follower is firmly bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or in any Simic staples lot. Given its consistent demand across Merfolk and untap-combo builds, it's unlikely to drop further, but there's no scarcity driving it higher either.
