Squandered Resources converts every land on the battlefield into immediate mana, making it the engine behind some of the fastest mana explosions available in black-green. The catch is symmetry and self-destruction — you're eating your own land base, so you need a way to rebuild, and cards like The Gitrog Monster or Shifting Woodland that turn that sacrifice into card advantage or copies are what make it worth the cost.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

The Gitrog Monster
The Gitrog Monster draws a card whenever a land hits the graveyard, which means Squandered Resources turns every land sacrifice into both mana and immediate card draw — the engine refuels itself in real time.

Lord Windgrace
Lord Windgrace's plus ability replaces lands from the graveyard directly to the battlefield, so Squandered Resources feeds him lands to recur and mana to spend in the same turn cycle.

The Necrobloom
The Necrobloom generates Zombie tokens whenever lands enter the graveyard, turning Squandered Resources into a wide token producer while simultaneously fueling explosive mana plays.

Commander is where Squandered Resources earns its place — the land-sacrifice synergies available in Golgari and Jund make it a genuine engine piece rather than a liability, and 100-card singleton means opponents rarely have a mirror threat. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but sees essentially no play; the formats reward more consistent and less fragile mana acceleration, and sacrificing your lands without a guaranteed payoff is a real liability in those faster, more interactive environments. Oathbreaker is legal and the synergy logic mirrors Commander, though the condensed game length makes the self-destruction cost harder to absorb. Squandered Resources is simply narrower than what the non-rotating formats want from a two-mana enchantment.

Pricing data for Squandered Resources isn't currently available in the system, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer directly for the current market rate before buying. It's a narrow card with a dedicated audience in Gitrog and landfall Commander shells, so supply is thin and prices can swing with any spike in land-synergy popularity.
