Mirrorpool enters untapped and produces colorless mana, but its real value is the two activated abilities: copy a spell for two mana and sacrifice it, or create a token copy of a creature for four mana and sacrifice it. The cost is real — sacrificing your only copy of a utility land hurts — but in decks built around landfall or high-impact spells, Mirrorpool earns its slot by doubling the effect that matters most. Lumra, Bellow of the Woods decks in particular treat it as a must-include, since every land that hits the battlefield is an event worth paying to repeat.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods triggers on lands entering, so Mirrorpool entering is already an event — but the real pull is using it to copy the overloaded landfall payoff spell or double a game-ending creature ETB at the critical moment. Over half of all Lumra decks run it, the highest inclusion rate of any commander, which tells you how well the two pieces align.

Zhulodok, Void Gorger
Zhulodok, Void Gorger grants cascade twice to spells with mana value seven or greater, meaning the spells you're casting are already game-warping — Mirrorpool lets you copy one of them for two colorless mana and no additional cascade triggers, which is exactly as broken as it sounds. Nearly half of all Zhulodok decks include it for that reason.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion
Kozilek, the Great Distortion refills your hand on cast and runs a colorless shell that happily supports Mirrorpool's colorless activation costs. The creature-copy mode is especially relevant here — doubling Kozilek or another massive Eldrazi for four mana is a closing move, not a cute trick.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Mirrorpool is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its competitive presence outside Commander is essentially zero. In Modern and Pioneer, the tempo cost of a land that sacrifices itself is too steep when your threats are already efficient and the format punishes stumbles. In Legacy and Vintage, the power ceiling is theoretically there, but dedicated copy effects that don't cost you a land slot are simply more available. Commander is where Mirrorpool genuinely thrives — singleton construction makes redundancy hard to come by, so a land that can copy any spell or creature without needing a second color is a unique effect worth the slot. The Oathbreaker format shares enough DNA with Commander that the same logic applies.

Price data for Mirrorpool isn't currently available in our system — check Scryfall or your preferred retailer for a live figure. Given its consistent 40–50% inclusion rates in top synergy commanders, it tends to hold value steadily rather than spiking, so buying when you need it is the right call.
