Season of Growth turns every Aura, Equipment, or targeting spell into a free scry-then-draw, making it one of the most efficient card-advantage engines available to green creature decks at two mana. Commanders like Arwen Undómiel that stack counters and target their own creatures repeatedly get a draw trigger almost every combat step, and The Howling Abomination runs it in nearly 87% of decks for exactly that reason.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

The Howling Abomination
The Howling Abomination targets its own creatures constantly to spread -1/-1 counters, which means Season of Growth fires on virtually every activation and turns the commander's built-in engine into a draw engine as well.

Legolas, Master Archer
Legolas, Master Archer taps to deal damage by targeting a creature it's attached to or by targeting creatures directly, so Season of Growth converts each of those targeting triggers into a scry and a card — the two cards together form a self-sustaining advantage loop.

Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief
Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief copies every single-target instant or sorcery cast at other creatures, and Season of Growth sees the original spell and hands you a draw for each cast, meaning a single cheap pump spell can net two cards while Ivy copies it for free.

Galadriel of Lothlórien
Galadriel of Lothlórien incentivizes running a dense suite of Auras and counters-matter spells, and Season of Growth converts that targeting-heavy game plan into consistent card velocity across a long midrange game.

Otrimi, the Ever-Playful
Otrimi, the Ever-Playful attacks to put Mutate cards back from the graveyard and rewards stacking abilities on a single creature, and Season of Growth catches every Mutate cast — each of which targets a creature — to keep the hand full as the pile grows.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Season of Growth is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is where it actually sees play. In competitive sixty-card formats the card is too slow and too conditional — it does nothing without a creature already in play and a targeting spell incoming, and faster formats don't give you the time to profit from incremental scry-draw. Commander is the sweet spot: games go long, creature-based strategies run dozens of Auras and pump spells, and a two-mana enchantment that generates card advantage passively for the rest of the game compounds quickly at a table of four. Oathbreaker shares enough structural similarity with Commander that the same targeting-heavy shells want it there too.

$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Season of Growth is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box or grabbing a playset for under a dollar. Bulk rares with this much Commander demand tend to sit at this floor indefinitely; there's no scarcity pressure to move it up.
