Polyraptor card art
Polyraptor turns any source of repeated damage into an exponential board state — pair it with Marauding Raptor and you get infinite Polyraptors before either player has time to respond. Eight mana is the honest cost of a card that wins games on the spot in the right shell, and Wayta, Trainer Prodigy cuts that cost in half while triggering the enrage engine herself.

Wayta, Trainer Prodigy was built around Polyraptor — she pings each creature with enrage when it enters, halves the mana cost, and single-handedly kickstarts the infinite loop without any additional setup.

43.2% of decks · synergy 0.42

Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer // Blue, Loyal Raptor leans on Polyraptor as a high-value Dinosaur target that generates an army the moment any damage source touches it — Owen's ability to protect and buff the board makes each copy matter.

Gishath, Sun's Avatar

42.9% of decks · synergy 0.36

Gishath, Sun's Avatar can flip Polyraptor directly onto the battlefield from the top of the library, bypassing the eight-mana cost entirely and immediately threatening the enrage loop on the same combat step.

Commander is the primary home for Polyraptor — the enrage combo with Marauding Raptor is a recognized infinite that tables have to respect, and the Dinosaur tribal support running through several commanders makes it a genuine win condition rather than a novelty. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but functionally irrelevant; eight mana is untenable in those formats, and the payoff requires too many moving parts for competitive play. Vintage has the raw power to enable it faster, but degenerate combos in that format don't need an eight-mana creature to close games. Polyraptor is a Commander card through and through.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

There's no true budget replacement for Polyraptor's self-replicating enrage loop — the card is functionally unique. If the goal is a large enrage payoff at a lower price point, Ranging Raptors and Ripjaw Raptor provide incremental value from repeated damage without the explosive ceiling, but neither threatens to end the game the way Polyraptor does.

Price Context

Current price

$16.50 mid tier

At $16.50, Polyraptor sits in the mid tier — meaningful but justifiable for a card that literally wins games when assembled with a single two-drop. It's a staple in three or four Commander archetypes, so demand stays stable and the price reflects real play rate rather than hype.
