Pentad Prism enters with two charge counters and taps to produce one mana of any color per counter — two mana across two activations, which is respectable ramp that also fixes freely. The cost is that it's a one-time resource: once the counters are spent, the Prism is an empty rock, which is exactly why Kilo, Apogee Mind turns that liability into an engine by proliferating it back to relevance.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Kilo, Apogee Mind
Kilo, Apogee Mind appears in 69% of decks running Pentad Prism, and the reason is straightforward: Kilo proliferates repeatedly, reloading the Prism's counters after each spend and turning a two-shot mana rock into a renewable source of colored mana throughout the game.

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel
Inspirit, Flagship Vessel runs Pentad Prism in 55% of its lists because the Prism's charge counters feed directly into Inspirit's counter-matters synergies, providing both early ramp and a persistent proliferate target.

Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres
Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres includes Pentad Prism in roughly 21% of builds as a cheap proliferate trigger that also smooths out color fixing — each activation of the Prism produces a +1/+1 counter event Ezuri can exploit.

Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus
Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus picks up Pentad Prism in 13% of lists as a doubling-synergy piece — Tekuthal's ability to double proliferate means each reload of the Prism gets two counters instead of one, stretching its value significantly.

In Commander, Pentad Prism earns its slot almost exclusively in decks that can proliferate — without that support, a two-shot mana rock that becomes a dead artifact doesn't compete with Arcane Signet or a basic land. In Pauper, Pentad Prism has real historical standing as a combo piece in storm and charbelcher shells, where its burst of colored mana matters more than longevity. Legacy and Vintage have no meaningful use for it given the density of broken mana acceleration available. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's calculus — proliferate synergy is the price of admission.

$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Pentad Prism is firmly bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a commons box. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a new proliferate commander spikes its inclusion rate sharply.
