Moat card art
Moat locks out every non-flying attacker on the board — a hard stop to most creature-based combat strategies that cheaper enchantments simply can't replicate. The price tag is prohibitive, but nothing else does this job; Archetype of Imagination grants flying to your team and strips it from opponents, which is the closest functional substitute at a fraction of the cost.

Commander is where Moat does its best work — a single copy shuts down token swarms, Voltron beatdown, and creature-heavy aggro pods all at once, and white has enough enchantment protection to keep it on the battlefield. In Legacy and Vintage, Moat sees fringe sideboard play in white control shells as a hard lock against creature aggro, though faster combo environments make it too slow for consistent results. It's not legal in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard, which limits its reach significantly. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander use case in miniature — still powerful, smaller cardpool to protect it.

Price Context

Current price

unknown tier

Moat is one of the Reserved List's most expensive white enchantments, historically trading in the hundreds of dollars for a Near Mint copy, and pricing data can shift quickly given thin market supply. If you need the effect without the buylist sticker shock, Archetype of Imagination or Gravitational Shift cover similar ground for a few dollars at most.
