Lunar Force card art
Lunar Force puts a repeating Counterspell on the board — every upkeep, the next spell cast gets countered, and the enchantment sacrifices itself only to return immediately if you have a way to flicker or recur it. The catch is symmetry: without an engine to abuse the sacrifice trigger, you're handing opponents free countermagic as often as you're using it, which makes Opalescence-style enchantment-creature shells or blink loops the price of admission.

In Commander, Lunar Force is a political enchantment with a real ceiling — in a dedicated flicker or enchantment-recursion deck, it locks the table out of key spells every turn cycle, which is devastating in a four-player game where opponents burn resources playing around it. Outside that shell, the symmetry kills it: you need consistent upkeep manipulation to make Lunar Force yours and not everyone's. Competitive formats like Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a three-mana enchantment that requires setup when hard countermagic is cheaper and unconditional. Modern and Pioneer are similarly hostile — the card is legal in both, but no archetype wants it. Oathbreaker offers a niche angle if your signature spell interacts with the sacrifice loop, but even there the support structure has to be intentional.

Price Context

Current price

$0.17 bulk tier

At $0.17, Lunar Force is deep bulk — a throw-in rare that sees little demand outside narrow combo applications. The price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander deck pushes the flicker-enchantment archetype into the spotlight, so grab copies freely if the shell fits.
