High Fae Trickster card art
High Fae Trickster lands with flash and an enters-the-battlefield counter effect that taxes opponents every time you put a Faerie on the board — the tempo swing is immediate and repeatable. It's a staple in any deck running Maralen, Fae Ascendant, and it slots cleanly alongside Ulalek, Fused Atrocity for decks that want to compound triggers into a lock.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Maralen, Fae Ascendant

Maralen, Fae Ascendant

67.4% of decks · synergy 0.60

Maralen, Fae Ascendant tutors Faeries and rewards stacking them, making High Fae Trickster's counter-placing trigger fire constantly as you build your board — 67% of Maralen decks already run it, and that number makes sense.

02
Alela, Cunning Conqueror

Alela, Cunning Conqueror

60.5% of decks · synergy 0.55

Alela, Cunning Conqueror generates Faerie tokens on opponents' turns, which means High Fae Trickster's effect is active during every player's upkeep rather than just yours — the token generation and the taxing synergize in a way that slows the table to a crawl.

03
Obyra, Dreaming Duelist

Obyra, Dreaming Duelist

51.1% of decks · synergy 0.46

Obyra, Dreaming Duelist pings opponents whenever Faeries enter, and High Fae Trickster adds another layer of punishment on top of that, so each new Faerie threatens both direct damage and a counter placement.

04
Fire Lord Azula

Fire Lord Azula

50.3% of decks · synergy 0.45

Fire Lord Azula cares about creatures with flying entering or attacking, and High Fae Trickster checks both boxes while also providing a disruptive on-board presence that slows opponents' setups — over half of Azula decks include it.

05
Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor

Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor

43.7% of decks · synergy 0.38

Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor draws a card whenever a Faerie you control dies, so High Fae Trickster contributes to both the anthem effect Tegwyll provides and the card advantage engine that kicks in when your Faeries trade or get wiped.

In Commander, High Fae Trickster is the card doing the most work — Faerie tribal is deep enough that its enters-the-battlefield trigger fires repeatedly, and flash means you can hold up interaction and still advance your board on an opponent's end step. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, it's legal but hasn't carved out a real role; the Faerie tribal shell there already has its staples locked in, and a three-mana creature without immediate card advantage is a tough sell. Standard legality opens the door if a Faerie-dense environment emerges, but right now High Fae Trickster is a Commander card through and through.
