Worldfire resets every life total to 1, exiles every permanent, and empties every hand and graveyard — the entire board state collapses to nothing for eight mana. The win condition is whatever you smuggle through the cleanup, which is why The Infamous Cruelclaw and instant-speed protection like Teferi's Protection are the cards people pair it with.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

The Infamous Cruelclaw
The Infamous Cruelclaw is the flagship Worldfire commander because its ability triggers on combat damage — deal one point, resolve Worldfire, and your opponent is dead on the crackback with nothing left to block or answer you.

Jhoira of the Ghitu
Jhoira of the Ghitu suspends Worldfire for two mana and four turns, letting you sequence the rest of your setup before the reset lands — a much cheaper entry point than casting it fair.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Worldfire is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but in practice it almost exclusively lives in Commander. In Legacy and Vintage the eight-mana cost is crippling — no competitive deck wants a sorcery that doesn't win the turn it resolves, and the formats move too fast for a reset to be relevant. Modern is technically legal but the same problem applies: by turn four opponents have already won. Commander is where Worldfire earns its slot, specifically in dedicated shells that guarantee the kill on the same turn through a commander trigger, a suspended threat, or an instant-speed response held up through the resolution.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
No card fully replicates what Worldfire does — the combination of resetting life totals, exiling all permanents, and clearing all hands is unique. Jokulhaups and Devastation hit permanents without touching life totals or hands, which matters less in most combo contexts; they run under $3 combined and cover most of the same reset-the-board function if you're building around a commander that just needs the board clear rather than life totals equalized.
Price Context
Current price
$29.40 premium tier
At $29.40, Worldfire sits firmly in the premium tier for a card with a narrow, build-around role. It sees enough Commander demand from dedicated combo shells to justify the price staying stable, but it's not a card you buy speculatively — you buy it when you're building the deck that actually needs it.
