Ghired, Conclave Exile enters with a 4/4 Rhino token and then populates on every combat attack — that's a token doubler stapled to a five-mana body that immediately threatens to snowball. The cost is the mana investment and the legendary constraint, but Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds and Aurelia, the Warleader both show why the payoff is worth building around.

Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds
Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds copies spells that target your creatures, so pairing it with Ghired, Conclave Exile turns a single pump spell or flicker effect into a cascade of populate triggers — the two cards share a name, a token theme, and a game plan that compounds every turn.

Ghired, Conclave Exile is where it belongs in Commander — a five-mana legendary that generates immediate board presence and scales exponentially with attack steps is exactly the kind of card that thrives in a 40-life multiplayer format where you have time to build. In Legacy and Vintage, where it's technically legal, the five-mana cost and creature-based game plan are too slow to matter against the format's combo and tempo threats. Oathbreaker is theoretically viable, but the 20-life clock and narrower card pool make the populate engine harder to sustain.
