Fighter Class card art
Fighter Class is a three-level enchantment that tutors an equipment to hand on level one, cuts its equip cost to zero on level two, and pumps your equipped creature with double strike on level three — all on a two-mana base with incremental leveling costs. Koll, the Forgemaster and Captain America, First Avenger are the commanders most likely to run it, and both hit level two by turn four without much effort.

Ardenn, Intrepid ArchaeologistRograkh, Son of Rohgahh

Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist // Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh

50.2% of decks · synergy 0.40

The Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist // Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh partnership already moves equipment for free via Ardenn's ability, and Fighter Class layers on a tutor plus double strike to close games faster than the raw voltron package alone.

03
Nahiri, Forged in Fury

Nahiri, Forged in Fury

50.6% of decks · synergy 0.40

Nahiri, Forged in Fury wants to forge-attach weapons at instant speed, and Fighter Class provides the equipment tutor that keeps her hand stocked and the zero equip cost that makes mid-combat re-equip lines free.

04
Bruenor Battlehammer

Bruenor Battlehammer

50.2% of decks · synergy 0.40

Bruenor Battlehammer already zeroes equip costs for creatures attacking with him, so Fighter Class's level-two redundancy is gravy — the real draw is the level-one tutor that finds the specific piece Bruenor needs to end the game.

05
Mabel, Heir to Cragflame

Mabel, Heir to Cragflame

49.4% of decks · synergy 0.39

Mabel, Heir to Cragflame generates equipment tokens as she damages players, and Fighter Class accelerates the whole package by finding a key piece early and then converting level three's double strike into twice as many triggers.

oathbreaker

Fighter Class is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card in practice. In Modern and Pioneer the three-level progression is far too slow — competitive equipment strategies want Colossus Hammer or Urza's Saga lines that operate by turn two or three, not a card that takes multiple turns to fully come online. Legacy and Vintage have no real use for it. Commander is the natural home: the slower pace of the format lets Fighter Class reach level two reliably, and the one-of tutor plus double strike ceiling is meaningful in a 100-card singleton environment where finding the right equipment matters.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

If Fighter Class is out of budget range, Steelshaper's Gift does the equipment-tutor job for under a dollar and is an instant — you lose the equip-cost reduction and double strike, but you get the most important level for half the price. Sigarda's Aid pairs with the tutor effect conceptually by making equip costs zero at flash speed, though it doesn't search, so running both alongside a cheaper tutor gets you most of what Fighter Class does at a lower total price point.

Price Context

Current price

$7.64 mid tier

At $7.64, Fighter Class sits in the mid tier — not a casual throw-in, but not a budget obstacle for a focused equipment build either. It holds that price because it's a genuine three-in-one in Commander, and demand from Captain America, First Avenger decks alone keeps it from dropping.
