Colossus Hammer card art
Colossus Hammer turns any creature into an 11-power threat for one mana — the catch is the eight-mana equip cost, which means the card does nothing without a way to cheat that number. In decks built around free-equip effects, like those running Noctis, Heir Apparent, the downside evaporates entirely; in everything else, it's a build-around that either wins games or sits in hand.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Noctis, Heir Apparent

Noctis, Heir Apparent

87.7% of decks · synergy 0.85

Noctis, Heir Apparent attaches equipment for free whenever he attacks, which means Colossus Hammer costs exactly one mana to put a creature to 10/10 — the eight-mana equip line never comes up.

02
Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER

Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER

89.5% of decks · synergy 0.82

Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER cares about equipping weapons and swords to push damage and trigger abilities, and Colossus Hammer is the single-mana equipment that most inflates his attack stat, making every combat swing a potential one-shot.

03
Ardenn, Intrepid ArchaeologistRograkh, Son of Rohgahh

Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist // Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh

91.0% of decks · synergy 0.80

Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist's static ability moves any number of equipment for free at the start of combat, so Colossus Hammer lands on Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh — already evasive with first strike and haste — for a Commander-damage kill as early as turn two.

04
Balan, Wandering Knight

Balan, Wandering Knight

84.2% of decks · synergy 0.79

Balan, Wandering Knight can equip all equipment you control to itself for two mana at any time, bypassing the eight-mana equip entirely and turning Colossus Hammer into a cheap way to push Balan past lethal in a single attack.

05
Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale

Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale

79.5% of decks · synergy 0.77

Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale lets knights equip for free, so Colossus Hammer becomes a one-mana +10/+10 buff for any knight in the party — raw damage output that Syr Gwyn's combat-focused strategy is happy to exploit.

In Commander, Colossus Hammer is a build-around staple rather than a universal include — free-equip commanders make it a one-mana game-ender, and outside that context it's a trap. In Modern, it anchors its own dedicated aggro deck using Kor Outfitter, Sigarda's Aid, and Puresteel Paladin to slam a zero-equip-cost Hammer on an unblockable creature as early as turn two, and that deck is legitimate enough to see competitive play. Pioneer has a softer version of the same shell, though without the same density of free-equip enablers the strategy is less consistent. Legacy and Vintage have access to every enabler ever printed, but faster and more broken things are happening there, so Colossus Hammer is mostly a curiosity. Standard has rotated it out of legality.
