Toph, the First Metalbender turns Staff of Domination into a Forest, and Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth makes every land a Forest on top of that — so tapping the Staff adds green mana. Dictate of Karametra doubles that mana, meaning each tap produces two green, one of which pays the Staff's untap cost and leaves the other free to loop infinitely through its draw and lifegain modes.

Fertilid's Favor or any other Yavimaya-redundancy isn't a clean substitute — Yavimaya is load-bearing here specifically because Staff must be a Forest, not just produce mana. If Dictate of Karametra is removed, any static mana-doubler in green such as Mana Flare or Heartbeat of Spring fills the same slot; the critical number is two green off a single tap. Aetherflux Reservoir or Thassa's Oracle converts the infinite draw into a table kill — the loop itself doesn't close the game.
