Zirda, the Dawnwaker + Sunforger + Unexpected Windfall + Jeska's Will + Reito Lantern

5-card combo · RW

Verdict

Yes — this 5-piece loop generates near-infinite card draw and red mana in Boros, though it collapses the moment an opponent drops below six cards in hand.

Zirda, the Dawnwaker cuts Sunforger's activation cost to 1R and Reito Lantern's to 1, which is the entire reason this chain is repeatable — without Zirda, the mana doesn't close. Each iteration uses Jeska's Will for the red float, Unexpected Windfall for two cards and two Treasures, and Reito Lantern to cycle both instants back into the library so Sunforger can fetch them again. The hard prerequisite is an opponent holding six or more cards, which makes this unreliable in the late game when hands run thin.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

An opponent has six or more cards in hand.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Sunforger by paying {R}{W} and unattaching it, searching your library for Jeska's Will and casting it without paying its mana cost, adding at least six {R}.
  2. Activate Sunforger's equip ability by paying {1}, attaching it to Zirda.
  3. Activate Sunforger by paying {R}{W} and unattaching it, searching your library for Unexpected Windfall and casting it without paying its mana cost and discarding a card.
  4. Resolve Unexpected Windfall, causing you to draw two cards and create two Treasures.
  5. Activate Sunforger's equip ability by paying {1}, attaching it to Zirda.
  6. Activate Reito Lantern twice by paying {2}, putting Unexpected Windfall and Jeska's Will from your graveyard onto the bottom of your library.
  7. Activate two Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {W}{W}.
  8. Repeat.

Result

Infinite draw triggers; Near-infinite storm count; Near-infinite self-discard triggers; Near-infinite magecraft triggers; Near-infinite card draw; Near-infinite red mana

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Boros has no cleaner Sunforger loop at this piece count — this is already the optimized line. The near-infinite red mana converts directly into a Zirda-reduced Walking Ballista or Crackle with Power as the kill; without a mana sink already in hand, drawing into one is the entire point of the engine. If the Reito Lantern gets removed mid-loop, the chain ends — a second copy or Anarchist as a fallback is worth the slot in dedicated Sunforger lists.
