Spellweaver Helix imprints both Demonic Tutor and an Extra Turn Sorcery; casting the Tutor copy from exile triggers Helix to cast the extra-turn spell for free, then Emeritus of Woe re-prepares itself at end step to restart the loop. Siege-Gang Lieutenant feeds the engine by producing two haste Goblins that sacrifice to keep Emeritus of Woe active each turn. The combo lives in Rakdos shells that can tutor aggressively and protect a critical enchantment.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Emeritus of Woe is prepared. You control your commander. Extra Turn Sorcery If you are low on mana, you may be able to use your first several Demonic Tutors to find cheaper, one-off ways to prepare Emeritus of Woe, finding Siege-Gang Lieutenant once you have played enough lands to perform the loop.

02

Steps

  1. Cast the copy of Demonic Tutor from exile by paying {1}{B}, unpreparing Emeritus of Woe.
  2. When you cast that spell, Spellweaver Helix's last ability triggers, allowing you to cast a copy of the Extra Turn Sorcery without paying its mana cost, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
  3. Resolve the copy of Demonic Tutor, finding Siege-Gang Lieutenant and putting it into your hand.
  4. Cast Siege-Gang Lieutenant by paying {3}{R}.
  5. At the beginning of combat, Siege-Gang Lieutenant's first ability triggers, creating two 1/1/ red Goblin creature tokens with haste.
  6. Activate Siege-Gang Lieutenant's last ability twice by paying {4} and sacrificing both Goblin tokens, dealing 2 damage to any target.
  7. At the beginning of your end step, Emeritus of Woe triggers, preparing itself.
  8. Repeat each turn, finding any card of your choice in step 4 instead of Siege-Gang Lieutenant.

Infinite turns; Lock

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Any Extra Turn Sorcery imprinted on the Helix works — Time Warp and Temporal Manipulation are the cleanest targets since they cost 5 and are easy to imprint alongside Demonic Tutor. The lock is durable but not instant — Spellweaver Helix is a fragile enchantment artifact that folds to Disenchant or Return to Nature before the loop starts, so protecting it with countermagic or Veil of Summer on the setup turn is non-negotiable.
