Pitiless Plunderer + Ashnod's Altar + Eternal Witness + Doomed Necromancer + Dragonlord Kolaghan

5-card combo · BRG

Verdict

Yes — this 5-card loop generates infinite ETB, death, and sacrifice triggers by recycling Eternal Witness and Doomed Necromancer through Ashnod's Altar and Pitiless Plunderer.

Ashnod's Altar kills Eternal Witness for two colorless; Pitiless Plunderer converts both creature deaths into Treasure tokens that fund Doomed Necromancer's activation and recast. Dragonlord Kolaghan is the passive payoff — every time Doomed Necromancer is cast from hand, opponents lose 2 life per creature in their graveyard, and the loop repeats without bound. This fits naturally into a Jund reanimator shell that already wants sacrifice outlets, graveyard recursion, and a haste-granting finisher.

Steps

  1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Eternal Witness, adding {C}{C}.
  2. When Eternal Witness dies, Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating a Treasure artifact token.
  3. Activate the Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding {B}.
  4. Activate Doomed Necromancer by paying {B}, tapping it and sacrificing it.
  5. When Doomed Necromancer dies, Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating a Treasure artifact token.
  6. Resolve the Doomed Necromancer ability, returning Eternal Witness from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Doomed Necromancer from your graveyard to your hand.
  8. Activate a Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding {B}.
  9. Cast Doomed Necromancer by paying {2}{B}.

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Kokusho, the Evening Star or Vindictive Lich slot in as alternate kill conditions if Dragonlord Kolaghan is removed — anything that triggers on ETB or death will close the game once the loop is running. Korvold, Fae-Cursed King as commander draws the library off the infinite sacrifice triggers, making the kill redundant. At five pieces this line is fragile to any single removal spell mid-loop; prioritize assembling Pitiless Plunderer and Ashnod's Altar first, since those two are the engine and everything else is recurable.
