Xenagos, the Reveler enters the battlefield already generating mana — his plus ability produces a Satyr token and then taps all your creatures and Satyrs for red or green, meaning a board with even three creatures can recoup his cost immediately. In The Chain Veil decks that loop planeswalker activations, that mana output compounds fast; in Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald shells, every token he makes triggers her damage ability on top.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald
Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald pings each opponent whenever a creature enters from a nonhand zone, so every Satyr token Xenagos, the Reveler generates is also a free damage trigger — the mana production and the damage engine run in parallel.

Thromok the Insatiable
Thromok the Insatiable gets exponentially larger by devouring creatures, and Xenagos, the Reveler supplies a steady stream of Satyr tokens to feed him without sacrificing anything valuable.

Wort, the Raidmother
Wort, the Raidmother wants as many bodies as possible to conspire copies of big spells, and Xenagos, the Reveler's token generation keeps that creature count climbing while simultaneously funding the mana to cast those spells.

Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher scales with the number of creatures sacrificed to him, and Xenagos, the Reveler converts that ever-growing board into the mana needed to recast Prossh after a removal or sacrifice loop.

Loot, the Key to Everything
Loot, the Key to Everything rewards having diverse permanent types in play, and Xenagos, the Reveler contributes both a planeswalker and a creature token in a single card — covering two categories at once.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Xenagos, the Reveler does the most work — token-generating planeswalkers that also ramp are rare, and in a 100-card singleton format, that dual function earns inclusion in any Gruul or token-adjacent deck. In Legacy and Vintage, four mana for a planeswalker with no immediate board protection is too slow when the format is full of free interaction, and the mana production rarely scales fast enough to matter. Modern and Pioneer are similarly unkind: four-mana planeswalkers compete with Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and Wrenn and Realmbreaker, and Xenagos, the Reveler's ceiling in those formats is just too low to justify a slot. Oathbreaker is the one other format where he earns serious consideration — as an oathbreaker himself, his plus ability fuels an instant or sorcery signature spell every turn, and the mana generation becomes a genuine engine.

Current pricing data for Xenagos, the Reveler isn't available in this listing, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the live number. Historically he's been an affordable mythic — the kind of card that sees steady Commander demand without a competitive format driving the price up — so he's rarely a budget concern.
