Cloudstone Curio turns any creature-dense commander into a bounce engine, letting you replay enters-the-battlefield triggers indefinitely as long as you keep feeding it nonartifact permanents of alternating types. Animar, Soul of Elements and Chulane, Teller of Tales are the flagship homes — both generate enough value per creature cast that the Curio's three-mana price tag pays for itself in a single loop.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Chulane, Teller of Tales
Chulane, Teller of Tales draws a card and bounces a land every time a creature enters, so Cloudstone Curio lets you chain two cheap creatures back and forth to draw your deck and replay every ETB you own.

God-Eternal Oketra
God-Eternal Oketra creates a 4/4 token every time you cast a creature, and Cloudstone Curio lets you bounce and recast that creature to generate tokens indefinitely — pair with any mana-positive creature to go infinite.

Animar, Soul of Elements
Animar, Soul of Elements grows a counter on each creature cast, rapidly reducing colorless creature costs to zero, and Cloudstone Curio converts that cost reduction into an infinite loop by bouncing two creatures back and forth for free.

Norin the Wary
Norin the Wary flickers himself every time a spell is cast or a creature attacks, and Cloudstone Curio exploits that by treating his re-entry as a permanent entering — triggering any ETB payoffs you have in play each time he returns.

Clement, the Worrywort
Clement, the Worrywort rewards casting creatures from unusual zones, and Cloudstone Curio feeds that engine by repeatedly bouncing creatures to hand so Clement can cash them in for value again on the recast.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Cloudstone Curio is a Commander card through and through — the 100-card singleton format gives it the critical mass of ETB creatures it needs to become a true engine, and multiplayer lifetotals mean you have time to assemble the loop. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but sees essentially no play; three mana for a do-nothing artifact that requires a specific board state is too slow against those formats' interaction density. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's creature-heavy strategies closely enough that Cloudstone Curio pulls real weight there too, particularly in green-based shells. Pioneer, Standard, and Pauper never saw it, so Commander and its adjacent formats are the entire conversation.

unknown tier
Cloudstone Curio has historically sat in the $15–25 range given its combo pedigree and the fact that it never received a wide reprint, though pricing can shift with each new set that introduces a powerful ETB commander. Check current listings before buying — any spike tends to follow a new commander reveal, which is also the worst time to buy in.
