Thud deals damage equal to a creature's power directly to any target — for one red mana, that's a lethal fireball stapled to whatever you've already built. With Serra Avatar matching your life total or Thromok the Insatiable eating an entire board, one mana ends the game on the spot.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Thromok the Insatiable
Thromok the Insatiable exists to devour tokens and become a triple-digit attacker, and Thud converts that number directly into a kill shot before blockers matter.

Juri, Master of the Revue
Juri, Master of the Revue grows whenever you sacrifice permanents, and Thud lets you cash in that power as direct damage the moment Juri gets large enough to end a player.

Brion Stoutarm
Brion Stoutarm throws creatures at opponents as a repeatable activated ability, and Thud fills the same role at instant speed for a fraction of the mana — run both.

Mr. Orfeo, the Boulder
Mr. Orfeo, the Boulder pumps attacking creatures to enormous power, and Thud means that power doesn't have to connect in combat to count as lethal damage.

Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes
Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes creates a Hamster that grows when it deals damage, and Thud short-circuits the combat requirement entirely once that power is high enough to matter.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Thud belongs — life totals start at 40, creatures regularly hit double-digit power, and one-mana spells that close games are never dead draws. In Modern and Pioneer the card is legal but competing against dedicated burn and combo decks that don't need a large creature in play first, which makes it too conditional to see serious play. Legacy and Vintage have the redundancy to make one-shot creature-damage lines work, but those formats move too fast for the setup Thud requires. Oathbreaker is a genuine home: planeswalker-powered creature builds can assemble a large attacker and a Thud kill in the same turn at a compressed game length.

Current price
$0.62 bulk tier
At $0.62, Thud is bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in without a second thought. It's a narrow card with a high ceiling, so the price is stable; there's no crossover demand from other formats inflating it.
