Temporal Mastery is a Time Walk for two mana when you miracle it — an extra turn at instant speed on the cheap is among the strongest effects in Commander. The seven-mana hard cast is a trap you should almost never pay, but engines like Panoptic Mirror and Narset, Enlightened Master make the miracle cost irrelevant by bypassing it entirely.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Narset, Enlightened Master
Narset, Enlightened Master exiles Temporal Mastery for free on each attack trigger, turning every swing into an extra turn that chains into more Narset attacks — it's the most degenerate home for this card in the format.

Elminster
Elminster's scry engine lets you stack Temporal Mastery on top of your library at will, making the miracle cost trivially easy to hit turn after turn without relying on blind draws.

Aminatou, the Fateshifter
Aminatou, the Fateshifter can top-deck Temporal Mastery on demand with her +1, then miracle it immediately on the same draw step for a repeatable two-mana extra turn.

Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow
Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow uses Temporal Mastery as a seven-point life drain bomb off ninjutsu triggers, and the miracle cost means you can actually cast it for two if it surfaces on top after a reveal.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Edric, Spymaster of Trest draws enough extra cards to hit Temporal Mastery naturally off the top, and the extra turn feeds directly back into more evasive attacks and more draw triggers.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the primary home for Temporal Mastery — the format's slower pace gives you time to set up miracle enablers, and an extra turn at two mana is game-warping at a 100-card table. In Legacy, it sees fringe play in miracle and Brainstorm shells that can reliably top-deck it, but Time Walk effects have stiffer competition there and the setup cost matters more in a faster format. Modern is technically legal but the card sees essentially no play — the miracle setup is too fragile against the format's speed, and the seven-mana fallback is unacceptable. Vintage has access to stronger extra-turn effects and better draw manipulation, so Temporal Mastery is an occasional inclusion rather than a staple. Oathbreaker is a fine shell for it for the same reasons as Commander, particularly under planeswalkers that manipulate the top of the library.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Time Warp does the same thing for five mana with no setup required — it costs around $3 and is the cleanest direct replacement when you just want a reliable extra turn without the miracle dependency. If you want to stay in the miracle lane on a tighter budget, Reforge the Soul hits at two mana on miracle as well and costs under $1, though it draws for all players and doesn't give you the extra turn Temporal Mastery provides.
Price Context
Current price
$7.02 mid tier
At $7.02, Temporal Mastery sits in the mid tier — affordable enough that it shouldn't be the reason you skip it, especially in any deck built to exploit the miracle cost. It's a fair price for a unique effect; Time Walk variants hold their value well due to scarcity and high Commander demand.
