Tainted Field card art
Tainted Field taps for white or black the moment you have a Swamp in play — no hoops, no life payment, just a dual land that pulls its weight in any WB or multicolor shell touching those colors. Outside of dedicated Orzhov and Esper builds, it's a strict downgrade from the dual lands that don't enter tapped, but Aminatou, Veil Piercer decks running deep black have made it a near-auto-include at bulk price.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Aminatou, Veil Piercer

Aminatou, Veil Piercer

49.3% of decks · synergy 0.42

Aminatou, Veil Piercer's Esper identity leans hard on black permanents, and Tainted Field reliably converts that density into white mana without eating into the black pip count that fuels the engine.

02
Caesar, Legion's Emperor

Caesar, Legion's Emperor

51.9% of decks · synergy 0.40

Caesar, Legion's Emperor is a Mardu token commander whose consistent Swamp count makes Tainted Field a dependable white source — keeping the mana base smooth while the deck floods the board with soldiers and triggers.

03
Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

41.9% of decks · synergy 0.34

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa runs enough Swamps to turn Tainted Field on reliably, and the Phyrexian corruption theme's heavy black commitment means the white mana comes without sacrificing pip density.

05
Anikthea, Hand of Erebos

Anikthea, Hand of Erebos

32.2% of decks · synergy 0.25

Anikthea, Hand of Erebos enchantress builds stack enough black sources that Tainted Field functions as a reliable white fixer, smoothing the Abzan mana base without spending budget on fetchlands.

Tainted Field is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker — and Commander is by far where it sees real play. In Legacy and Vintage, Swamp-reliant decks theoretically qualify, but the format's fetch-dual mana bases make Tainted Field obsolete next to Scrubland or even Caves of Koilos. Commander is its home: singleton construction rewards budget duals that reliably come online, and most WB or three-color shells touching those colors run enough Swamps by turn three to activate it consistently. In Oathbreaker the same logic applies on a compressed timeline — if your signature spell is in Orzhov colors and your deck is black-heavy, Tainted Field is a clean inclusion.

Price Context

Current price

$0.33 bulk tier

At $0.33, Tainted Field is bulk — pick up a copy without thinking twice if your commander is black-heavy and touches white. Bulk duals with narrow activation conditions don't appreciate meaningfully, so treat it as a utility land acquisition rather than a hold.
