Clavileño, First of the Blessed turns every non-token Vampire death into a 4/3 flying Vampire token with a draw-on-death trigger stapled to it — that's a two-for-one engine that compounds fast in tribal. The cost is a three-mana legendary with no immediate board impact, so it needs a board state to do anything; Edgar Markov and similar go-wide commanders supply that context on their own.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Edgar Markov
Edgar Markov floods the board with Vampire tokens on every cast, and Clavileño, First of the Blessed converts each non-token Vampire death — whether a lord, a utility piece, or a combat casualty — into a fresh 4/3 flier that replaces itself when it eventually dies. That recursive loop means sweepers punish the opponent less and every exchange in combat generates value.

Elenda, the Dusk Rose
Elenda, the Dusk Rose scales on creature deaths and then dies herself, and Clavileño, First of the Blessed turns that self-sacrifice payoff into an additional 4/3 flier on top of the Lifelinker tokens Elenda already generates. The two together make sacrifice-heavy builds genuinely threatening through multiple board wipes.

Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher
Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher puts +1/+1 counters on herself whenever creatures leave graveyards, so every Vampire death triggers both commanders simultaneously. Clavileño, First of the Blessed adds a flying body and a future draw to each of those triggers, making the Vampire aristocrats package far more explosive.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Clavileño, First of the Blessed lives — a three-mana legendary that does nothing the turn it enters is a fine trade in a 40-life multiplayer format where tribal synergy accumulates over several turns. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant; Vampire tribal has no competitive shell in either format that wants a slow value engine over raw disruption. Oathbreaker is the one fringe case worth noting: a Vampire-focused build with a planeswalker commander could use the card, though the pool of compatible signature spells is narrow. Outside of Commander, this card simply doesn't have a home.

$1.04 cheap tier
At $1.04, Clavileño, First of the Blessed is cheap enough to slot into any Vampire build without a second thought. It holds that floor comfortably — over 50% inclusion in Edgar Markov decks means demand is steady, and there's no obvious reprint target that would tank it further.
