Strands of Night turns any swamp into a reusable reanimation engine — pay two mana, sacrifice a Swamp, pull any creature from your graveyard straight to the battlefield. The cost is real and cumulative, so it belongs in decks that either generate Swamps faster than they spend them or lean on cards like Aftermath Analyst to recycle the lands they've sacrificed.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Strands of Night earns its keep — repeatable reanimation at instant-optional sorcery speed is exactly the kind of engine grindy black decks want over a long game. The Swamp cost starts to bite around turns 6–8 when mana bases get thin, so it rewards builds that run Cabal Coffers, Urborg, or heavy basic counts rather than greedy duals. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but practically invisible — those formats move faster than a four-mana setup card can operate. Oathbreaker shares Commander's multiplayer pacing and is the only other format where Strands of Night can realistically do work.

Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Strands of Night sits squarely in bulk territory — you're picking it up as a throw-in, not a purchase. The price reflects low demand rather than low power, so it's unlikely to spike unless a high-profile Commander deck brings it into the spotlight.
