Squee, Dubious Monarch card art
Squee, Dubious Monarch attacks, creates a Goblin token, and then bounces himself back to hand at end of combat — a built-in recursion loop that generates value every single turn without spending a card. Pair him with Breath of Fury and he enables infinite combat steps; slot him into General Kreat, the Boltbringer and every swing becomes a free body plus a hand refill.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Commander is the format built for Squee, Dubious Monarch — the self-bounce loop generates consistent value across long games, the Goblin token matters in tribal builds, and infinite-combat lines with Breath of Fury are a real win condition rather than a novelty. In Legacy and Vintage, the effect is too slow and the body too small to compete; red has better cheap threats and the bounce-to-hand mechanic doesn't offset the tempo cost at those speeds. Modern and Pioneer are the same story — three mana for a 2/1 that attacks and goes home is not a competitive rate when the format punishes anything that doesn't impact the board immediately. Squee, Dubious Monarch is a Commander card through and through.

Current pricing data for Squee, Dubious Monarch isn't available in this snapshot, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the live figure before buying. Given his niche but genuine combo role in Goblin and aristocrats builds, he tends to sit in a range that reflects fringe Commander demand rather than competitive crossover — worth picking up if you're building the deck, not a speculative hold.
