Quilled Greatwurm card art
Quilled Greatwurm is a 10/10 indestructible trampler that costs nothing if you're already making Wurm tokens — under Baru, Wurmspeaker, it routinely hits the battlefield for free by turn five or six. The combo ceiling with Sage of Hours makes it more than a beatstick, but raw size alone justifies the slot.

Baru, Wurmspeaker

Baru, Wurmspeaker

72.0% of decks · synergy 0.65

Baru, Wurmspeaker is the natural home: Baru's token-generating ability feeds the convoke cost, and Quilled Greatwurm's indestructibility makes it the ideal target for Baru's pump trigger, giving you a nearly unkillable 20/20 trampler that closes games fast.

02
Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied

Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied

31.8% of decks · synergy 0.30

Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied wants large power creatures to trigger its combat effects, and Quilled Greatwurm's 10/10 indestructible body is exactly the kind of threat Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied can leverage to snowball advantage turn after turn.

Felix Five-Boots

Felix Five-Boots

23.0% of decks · synergy 0.21

Felix Five-Boots doubles triggers on poisoned or conniving creatures, and pairing it with Quilled Greatwurm gives Felix Five-Boots a massive indestructible body that survives the board wipes opponents lean on to answer wide token boards.

Commander is where Quilled Greatwurm actually lives — convoke needs a wide board, and only multiplayer games consistently produce enough creatures to make a free 10/10 a realistic turn-four or five play. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, the convoke payoff doesn't match the opportunity cost: green has cheaper threats with better immediate impact, and a 10/10 indestructible trampler that requires setup gets outpaced by format staples. Legacy and Vintage have the same problem at a more extreme level — you're not casting Quilled Greatwurm when Primeval Titan and Atraxa, Praetors' Voice exist on a faster clock. Standard is the one exception worth watching; if a token-wide environment exists in the format, the Greatwurm can function as a legitimate top-end finisher with no direct competition at its size.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

If Quilled Greatwurm is out of reach or you want redundancy, Autochthon Wurm fills a similar role as a convoke-able Wurm with even higher raw power, though it costs ten mana without help and lacks indestructibility. Impervious Greatwurm is another indestructible 16/16 trampler that convokes down, trading the combo ceiling for a bigger stat line at a comparable or lower price point.

Price Context

Current price

$5.37 mid tier

At $5.37, Quilled Greatwurm sits in mid-tier pricing — expensive enough to feel like a deliberate inclusion but not so costly it's a barrier for most budgets. It's a new enough card with a narrow enough home that the price reflects early demand from Baru, Wurmspeaker brewers; whether it holds depends entirely on whether the Sage of Hours combo sees wider play.
