Autochthon Wurm puts a 9/14 trampler on the board for zero mana if you can convoke it out — that's the whole pitch. The ceiling is enormous and the floor is a fifteen-mana card rotting in your hand, so it only belongs in decks built to exploit the convoke discount.

Commander is where Autochthon Wurm actually gets to live — token-generating commanders like Ghave, Guru of Spores or Trostani, Selesnya's Voice can routinely tap enough creatures to cast it for free, and a 9/14 trampler closes games fast. In Legacy and Vintage it's a curiosity at best; dedicated combo decks that want a free spell have faster, more reliable options, and a vanilla creature with no enters-the-battlefield effect doesn't clear the bar. Modern has enough removal that a nine-power creature without haste or protection dies before it attacks, so it sees no competitive play there. Stick to Commander.

Price Context
Current price
$2.96 cheap tier
At $2.96, Autochthon Wurm sits at the cheap end of big-creature payoffs, which is about right for a card with a narrow home. It's unlikely to spike — the demand ceiling is low — but it's also not going to zero, so pick it up when you need it and don't overthink it.
