Quest for the Holy Relic card art
Quest for the Holy Relic tutors any Equipment directly onto the battlefield — no mana cost paid — the moment you've cast your fifth creature, which in the right shell happens before turn four. The setup cost is real, but the payoff is a free Skullclamp, Swiftfoot Boots, or whatever broken Equipment your deck is built around.

Format Analysis

Quest for the Holy Relic sees almost no play in Legacy or Vintage — the formats move too fast for a five-creature setup requirement when Stoneforge Mystic just finds the Equipment immediately. Modern is similarly unkind; the card is legal but the tempo loss is prohibitive in a format where games end on turn four. Commander is its true home: token generators and go-wide creature strategies charge the quest in a single combat step, and the payoff — a free Equipment from anywhere in your deck — can close games outright if it fetches Argentum Armor or Colossus Hammer.

Price Context

Current price

$0.23 bulk tier

At $0.23, Quest for the Holy Relic is deep bulk — cheap enough to include as a fourth or fifth tutor in any Equipment deck without a second thought. Bulk rares rarely spike unless a new commander pushes them into the spotlight, and Equipment tutors have enough redundancy that this one is unlikely to break out of its current price floor.
