In Legacy, it's legal and theoretically relevant against Vampiric Tutor and Imperial Seal, but the format moves fast enough that a three-mana creature requires protection to stay relevant, so it shows up only in specific fair black shells. Vintage sees it as a sideboard consideration at most — the broken fast mana and restricted tutors make it a nuisance rather than a lock piece. No single card fully replicates what Opposition Agent does, but Hullbreacher and Narset, Parter of Veils each eat pieces of the effect — Narset shuts off opponents drawing extra cards rather than searching, and while she doesn't intercept tutors, she's a fraction of the price and still warps games around her presence. If the goal is specifically denying library searches, Stranglehold is a hard lock on tutoring entirely and runs under $5, though it lacks the flash timing and card-advantage upside that make Opposition Agent uniquely powerful.
